Beijing Garden: Ecological restoration

By: DavidPage

Ecological restoration refers to the process of restoring ecosystem functions and habitats or enabling the ecosystem’s development through a virtuous cycle, which relies on the ecosystem’s natural ability to recover itself and some artificial means. Ecological restoration technology is used to restore ecosystems and poorly developed areas of Beijing garden. It also creates green spaces in cities. This is the best way to improve landscapes in the future and it is also in line with sustainable development concepts.

Beijing Garden is located

In the northeast corner of Jinxiu Valley. It was originally designed as a traditional royal park named “The Garden of Ten Thousand Gardens”. Both landscapes have a unique beauty that combines tradition and modernity. It’s hard to believe that the landscape used to be the largest landfill of construction waste in Beijing a few years back. The original landfill was transformed by three years of ecological restoration, construction, and the planting of flowers and greenery.

Jinxiu Valley, Beijing Garden and the Butchart Gardens were modeled after and used a similar approach to ecological restoration. They were also built using more gardening techniques and cultural elements from China, making them one of the most unique garden landscapes at the Expo Park. This article summarizes the construction characteristics of Jinxiu Valley, Beijing Garden and will serve as a practical reference for ecological restoration projects.

General Conception

In the planning and construction of Jinxiu Valley, Beijing Garden, ecological restoration, flood discharge, water conservancy, and landscape effects are all considered. The design aims at transforming the sand pit into a landscape in the valley by ecological restoration activities that are carried out at the foot Yingshan Mountain. This will make the wasteland a green environment.

The Greater Beijing Garden is composed of Jinxiu Valley and Beijing Garden. Jinxiu Valley represents the future and development through modern technology and accomplishment, while represents tradition and history in a classical style. Both landscapes complement each other well and offer a great combination of modern technology and traditional garden art.

Jinxiu Valley’s and Beijing Garden’s constructions of the Garden Expo Park have had a significant impact on the ecological restoration and use of rainwater. Ecological restoration technology can not only enhance the landscape effect and provide ecological benefits but also significantly reduces the cost of green space construction. This is the essence of the idea of using technology in order to create a beautiful garden expo.
